Headaches

Could your teeth be causing your headaches?

Do you suffer from constant headaches?

The reason could be to do with your jaw and teeth, here's why...

The muscles in our face, head and neck are all joined together and are all linked to the TMJ (Temporo Mandibular Joint) which is the hinge of your jaw just in front of your ears.

Sometimes the teeth don't quite meet in the most relaxed position for the jaw muscles, this means that the jaw muscles have to constantly 'pull' the jaw in to the correct position for the teeth to meet and bite together.

This means there is a mismatch between the teeth and the jaw which leads to stress on the jaw muscles... and because the muscles of our head and neck are all interconnected this can lead to headaches.

Solutions for headaches

If it is suspected that your teeth and jaws are causing the headaches we can make various 'dental splints' for you to wear over a short period of time (typically overnight).

This will prevent your teeth from meeting and allow your jaw muscles to relax, we can then gauge the next phase of treatment.

It could be that simply making a splint to wear in this way each night is enough, or we may need to do some minor adjustments to your teeth to help them meet in a position that is comfortable for your jaw.
